The Peace of Making Music
A later-in-life band arrives at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios and discovers a space so welcoming that it challenges their identity, exposes creative vulnerabilities, and transforms their relationship to music itself.
Explore the filmSix days. Seven musicians. A different way of working.
The Peace of Making Music, the latest feature documentary from producer/director Jim Combs, follows Blackfox—seven veteran Atlanta musicians in their fifties and sixties—during an extraordinary six-day recording session at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in the English countryside.
After decades of balancing everyday life with an unwavering commitment to making music together, the band enters a studio designed entirely for collaboration, concentration, and creative care. Songs that have lived in rehearsal spaces and notebooks begin to take shape in one of the world’s most respected recording rooms.
Through studio footage and candid interviews, the film reveals what becomes possible when artists are given patience, trust, and mutual respect. Rather than revisiting the familiar mythology of rock-and-roll chaos, it offers something quieter: a portrait of musicians discovering that making music together can still transform how they see themselves and their work.
